Macojoe-Chumbucket, I have a slip In N.J. so I only trailer back and forth two or three trips a year. Just did a rebuild on my single axle Loadrite, brake lines, serge master cyl., tires, inspected brakes. Talked to a small boat dealer Sat., he claims the 5-Starr Trailer is a cheaper (lower quality) version in the loadrite line of trailers. A lot of people are starting to say good things about alumn. trailers being built by other Mfgs., even for salt water use. If I give up my slip and just become a trailer person. I would first recall Kodiak Brake co. see who is building with their products and try building a trailer with the specks I noted in above post. 2nd option because of location would be to spec. trailer from Loasdrite. Order with disc brakes and before or when they crap out change to the Kodaik calipers and rotors, would think brake lines would be veryclose to hooking up. Kodiak brakes would be type that you can seperate the rotor from hub. Also have heard Tie Down change redesigned metal and seals in their products, Still most people feel they are crap. Watch what tires you get do a search on other boardes a lot of tire failure ou there . I went to Goodyear Marthon Radials Good Luck! Crusher

MJ, so you finally found my postS. :)
Now, all you have to do is read them. ;)

We have more to discuss than what I have already written, but you must first get up to speed with this topic so that we can both get on the same page.

puter freezin up >:(

MJ, 5STARR AND LOADRITE HAVE SAME COMPONENTS.

EXCEPT THE ROLLER BRACKET ASSEMBLIES. LR IS MORE ADJUSTABLE. 5STARR CAN'T ADJUST THE DISTANCE BETWWEEN EACH ROLLER IN EACH PAIR 13 INCHES SPACE BETWEEN EACH 3 INCH ROLLER. I STILL HAVE TO GET IT RIGHT. 13 INCH SPACE BAD FOR V20 CAUSE ROLLER WANTS TO ALWAYS SIT ON A STEP. THAT IS WHY MY BOAT IS SITTIN WACKED ON TRAILER IN MY GALLERY PICS. IF I CAN'T GET IT STRAIGHT I MAY NEED TO BUY DIFFERENT ROLLER BRACKETS. YOU SHOULD TAKE PICS OF BOTH SO YOU CAN COMPARE.

crusher did some good research (as usual) on the brakes and tires. 5starr only came with tie down and regular tires. i will be looking into replacing with kodiak and radials when the time comes. although not goodyears because i have had bad experience with goodyear including a highway blow out with my old van (1st 7000 miles - bought new).

HEY CRUSHER, DO YOU KNOW WHAT GRADE ALUM ALLOY THEY ARE USING? JUST CURIOUS.

Is this your only problem with the trailer?? I might go with a loadright if that is the case??

I have been hearing some good things as far as the Venture trailers also?

The Karavan trailers have a small amout of rollers and they only come with drum brakes. So they are out!!

So I am looking at so far: Load rite, 5 starr, Venture.

I have heard good things about Loadmaster but I can't afford the cash that they are costing!!

And some one thur a Roadmaster Alum. it to the mix now for me to check out.

I am so confussed ???

Seakindly, Just reading all the boards about trailers. A lot of good conments about alum I beam trailers. I don't know what alloy they are using. My consern would be corrision? Torsion axles, Radial tires, Disc brakes, seem to be the most popular items in that order. Torsions axles for their ride, no leaf failure, if you lose a bearing or hub you take a big nut of spindle to replace it, and you on your way. Tires everybody reports failure with all makes of tires its real crap shoot. I think all the different towing conditions trailers are subject to and the fact that we all don't want to admit how much our rigs weigh (EXTRA BEER). Spec tires for the total weight of your rig keep air pressure correct. I'm with Macjoe confussed and hoping this will all be sorted out by the time I need to purchase. Crusher

MJ - When I was looking around I really liked the galvanized Continential Trailers.

But . . . If you're looking for inexpensive trailers.

nextrail
http://www.nextrailofamerica.com/

TA Mahoney's in Tampa, FL gave me a quote of $1290 for a brand new galvanized tandem axel trailer (no brakes). Not sure if they can ship'em north.

I also heard that Northeast Marine Industries, Inc. in oxford, ma sometimes has good deals on trailers.
