thats alot of work!! :o and Diesel is $2.95 while gas has drooped to $2.89

why go thur all that when you could just buy a Isuzu?

after all that work and time it would have been cheaper just to buy a hole vehicle.

well I hope he is happy!! he has a one of a kind.

I didn't read the entire article on the conversion. I quit after I came up with 2 questions.

1. I wonder what reducing the size of the oil sump does to the Isuzu engines reliability. Nothing good I bet.

2. When you consider that diesel fuel will cost at least as much as gasoline and the cost of the conversion, how many years of slightly improved mileage will it take to recover the cost of the conversion?

Seems like way to much work for to little gained.

but a diesel motor has less maint. and last 4 times as long. Chevy's have Isuzu diesels in them and they last for hundreds of thousands of miles. plus the fuel mileage is better at all times my tahoe has the 6.5 turbo in it which is actually an Isuzu has 212,000 miles on it and still gets 23 mpg as of this past weekend going to the coast and towing the weekend before i got 21 mpg *towing at 70 mph too. If that were a gas tahoe it would be lucky to get 12 towing and 16 not towing. I say go Diesel all the way.

I agree with you Schools. Diesel is definitely the way to go. I just don't think I would have put all that effort into a conversion. Using your numbers and driving 15000 miles per year you would save about $825 / year. I think it would take alot of driving to pay for the conversion. I'm guessing break even is a few years down the road. I think if it were me I'd just sell the Jeep and buy a diesel something and start saving today.

MJ - That guy is claiming 35MPG (imperial) about 28 MPG with a Jeep Grand Cherokee . . . which is normally about 15/20mpg. It's a pretty big difference.

If you drive 20K miles a year . . . it's about a 2K savings on just the fuel at the current prices. You also get 600+ miles per tank.

Out here Diesel is 3.05 and 87 is 3.15 (that's at the cheapest stations).

yeah if i'd been him i'd sold the jeep and bought one of the new Diesel Liberty Jeeps that have the Mercedes-Benz Diesel. They get around 35 to 40 MPG according to a guy i know with one.

I not complaining that he converted to diesel, just the amount of time & money, he could have done better buying something all toghter.

But I guess we could say that with are boats also :o

There are so many reasons to go to Diesel,

better gas mileage,
less maintenance,
no pollution test,
longer motor life,
don't have to deal with this new gas..ect ect

I like the idea.
