Have any of you guys come across a marine conversion for a Mercedes 300D motor?

The torque specs, HP, max RPM's are very similar to the Cummins Mercruiser 1.7L motor. I know that these motors can go 400K+ in the cars and used motors at the junkyards out here are around $500/each I know nothing about diesels, i/o's or inboards What is involved in converting a car engine to a marine engine? Cooling? Corrosion? Gearbox or outdrive mating? Exhaust Manifold?

These guys have done a conversion for a Cummins 6bt truck motor. For about 10K you can have a nice Diesel motor that puts out 400+ lbs of torque. I might call have to call them . . . http://www.mesamarine.com/#Marinization%20Kits

cam is a major difference in gas marine motors due to over lap so it won't suck water in the motor while the exhaust valves are open at idle.

Try calling Mercedes-Benz USA customer service at 800-FOR-MERC. This is the US headquarters for their passenger operation. I doubt they have any direct involvement with marine engines but maybe they can direct you to someone who does. I recently left the auto repair business after 20 years as an advisor and service manager with Mercedes-Benz. I'm not a mechanic but I know a few. If you have any specific questions about the engine , I may be able to help you find an answer.
