CB's right about the trailer...mine's ''dropped'' in front like that, too, only that one looks more extreme...in the 1st pic (hooked up) it looks like it will ride OK, but you'll just have to see once hooked up to your tow...I can sure understand your reluctance to another FL trip..
That LOOKS like a 25'' shaft in the pics...on an '84 it most likley is... ;)... C Bill, the only concern I'd have about DC to CC conversion would be gettin' cables/wiring thru the floor and under the deck back to the transom...that'd be the ''tricky part'' ;) :P...
