New England guys...Seaway boats?

Any of you guys know about Seaway boats?

I know they are a down east type boat built in Maine and I think are prety expensive.

I came across a 23' w/a 1992 Merc 175hp rebuilt this past summer, no trailer, for $5,900!!! Not sure what year the hull is, I emailed the guy and waiting for his response. It's not really what I was looking for, but I hat to pass up an awesome deal!

The more I think about it, I think he left a digit off the price, boat even has some electronics and a new enclosure. It just doesn't add up, maybe it need structural work too???

That boat is awesome, it has that classic look that only a boat from Maine could have. I was just searching around and a new 21 footer from them sells for 42,500 with a yamaha 115. If you can but that boat for $5900 I would do it in a second.

It has to be a typo....He must have left a number off before the "5"...I called the guy and left a message...hope he calls soon, this is killin me!

If the motor is a 92 figure the hull is the same.....even $15,900 is an OK deal...has to be typo.

He emailed me! Hull is a 77, didn't think it was near that old, need to do some research on the older Seaway's now. I'm still very intereseted. What do you guys think?

The hull is a 1977 no soft spots the boat is very solid it has been very well maintained. Very solid transom, no damage to hull just upkeep. and i am sorry but that is the only pic i have right now. i will get more overthe next few days for you.

Tin, By the looks of those homes I would think that boat has been maintained with an open checkbook. the top looks new and boat looks much newer than a 77. I'm not a fan of Merc's but I think for the money thats a great deal. My only advice is to not get caught up in the "good deal" and wind up with a boat that doesnt suit your needs. If your into fly fishing that boat doesnt look like its got a ton of cockpit space. For $5900 theres alot of nice V20 CC's out there. Good luck and keep us updated.

Good point Mulv.....But, here's my plan. IF(and that's big if) I get this boat, I would keep it in a slip at a local marina. A 23' downeaster with full enclosure...talk about fall striper fishing in comfort! I'd keep the tin boat and rig it for flyfishing...I'd make a casting platform on the bow and I'd like to redo the transom and enclose it. I didn't really want to be a 2 boat owner but I love the looks of that Seaway! I've always wanted a downeast style boat like that. I still need to see this boat, sea trial it and do some research on it. I already emailed the owner of Seaway for some info on it.

Even though it's 23' I'm not expecting it to ride as good as a V20, in fact it probably won't even come close. These hulls are meant for slower speeds and are a pretty economical design. Eventually I'd love to put a Suzi 140 4 stroke on her. I'm not jumping the gun, I still think it's a pretty damn good deal and if it looks as good as it does in the picture I believe I could always get my money back....and then some too. I hope he calls me, I'd go see it tomorrow if possible.

I here ya man, that would make a great striper boat. I went to their site and the cuddy, if anything like the new ones looks deep and roomy. Youre right about not loosing money on it if you decide its not the right boat for you. I've never even been out on my V20 and I'd trade it in a second for that boat.

Tin for the money jump that is a sweet hull and if for no reason other than resale you should do it ;)

Just looked at their 23 footer layout, very nice, and that one in your pic Tin looks like it will have a decent cockpit area itself. Did not see anything about draft of ther boats but I think that boat would be darn nice to fish off.
