Chartplotters give you a nautical ''map'' of your surroundings...you can ''see'' where you are and where other features are like shorelines, bouys, bottom-contours and more...GPS is the navigational tool to get you from one place on the chart to another...one thing it does is give you a compass ''heading'' to follow and a ''plotted'' line that shows where you've been; which you can ''mark'' and return to in case you caught fish there or you think highly enough of the drunk who fell outta the boat to go back and get him... ::)...

Rap is right on the money!!! You can move a cursor on the map from waypoint to waypoint and it will lay out a course for you to follow also

Hey Oz, I been readin' a bunch, just not postin' much. I've been fishing a couple of times, getting to know the techniques and the waters around here. Got the loading and unloading of the boat down to a science. We spend less than 2 minutes at the ramp getting her off the trailer and another 3 minutes to load her up. That drive on trailer is way cool. Sh runs out at nearly 50 mph with 80 gallons of gas and 3 guys on the boat at arount 5300 rpm, she cruises at 30 mph all day long at 3400 rpm. Ir sips fuel, floats in less than 2 feet of water. Just find the hook up on a trolling motor. The live bait wells work well, lotsa deck space and storage.

I'll always have a big ol' soft spot for my V20. The V20 could take on bigger seas than my new boat, but thats not what I'm fishing now. We were out for 8 hours saturday and most of that was fishing time. I don't have the 30 plus mile runs to get to the hot spots. I live right in the middle of it all. All the off shore stuff I'm used to doing happens of the bahamas, about 90 miles out of fort pierce inlet. I'm still close to smoker kings, blue fish, tarpon, grouper, mahi mahi, cobia etc near shore.
But let me get you in the river and it's a different ball game, lotsa flats and shallow water fishing. I do miss the V20, but I like fishing more than working on my boat.

Fish,

RAP is the man, very detailed answer. The only thing I might add is this. A chartplotter is still a GPS, as RAP said it's basicly a GPS with a built in chart overlay.

Glad to hear the new boat is workin' out so well, Franco...trollin' motor is tuff to bite off and swaller :P...I guess I could fish w/out one, but it's become a pretty important part of the way I like to fish...

You gettin' into some good Redfish?... 8)...

Thanks, Shicks...there's a whole lot more to GPS/Chartplotters than what's above...I's juss tryin' to hit the high spots... :D...
