Thanx Stinky.. and I guess,, tell yer wife thanx too... I like to think handsome over purty.... but hey... ;)
I dont know what takes more patience, bow huntin or just huntin with a 4 yr old (he'll be 5 in Jan), but he just asked me today if we were goin out this weekend. We have a medow we're gonna turn into a food plot in Asheboro on Friday, then will be huntin in Winston-Salem on Saturday for a "father-son day" hunt at our uncles place. I hear ya Blue Runner... He's definately better at fishin, but it's truely amazin how quickly they pick up stuff.. his first season out in the woods on a hunt and he's a regular know it all now... ha ha ha ha ha.... dadda, 3 turns left, one turn right and two turns left.. that's where the deers are... ha ha ha ha ha ha..... he kill's me. One tip to anyone takin a youngin out huntin.... BRING TOILET PAPER!!! He didnt like the idea of maple leaves for butt wipe.... But it's great that he seems to enjoy this stuff. He's learnin muzzle control (via carryin a stick), how to be sneaky like a deer, can tell ya what deer poop looks like, knows which way they travel by lookin at their hoof prints, how to be patient (sort of...) and the beauty of gettin up at 4:30 a.m. to eat breakfast and prepare for a hunt (usually wore out and nappin by lunch!!!) ;D A good lesson though from Stinky is, a trophy doesnt have to be some huge boone crocket buck to have a lifetime of memories... best thing is we get to spend time together and that's enough for me, it'll be icin on the cake when he takes his first deer or catch that first big fish (I just might be more excited than him). Good to see fellow sportsman that share the same passion with enthusiasm!!! Keep the pix comin on that and if you ever get a chance, take a little one out, it is a challenge (i.e. on yer patience and keepin them safe), but it's worth it, especially when they yell out "Dadda there's a deer" |

Well put Dave, I'm on number three of four right now, fishin bird hunting deer hunting etc. My only problem has always been just getting the time out with them. Football games practice dancing piano basketball girl scouts school events church religous education family events ( a lot ) 46 immediate family members within half an hour from me. It's tough. I don't remember being that busy when I was a kid :-/

I hear ya Willy.
What I do is just small amounts of time. Example, up at 4:30 eat breakfast and get little guy in truck by 5:30 a.m., 35 minute drive to the gamelands, walk in the woods less than a half mile, sit for an hour, then walk out *(unless we're lookin for blood incase dadda might of actually shot one), 30 minute drive back into town, eat an early lunch and be on the way home before 11 a.m. (we actually made it back just after 10 a.m. this last weekend). We spend more time fartin around and gettin ready than we do for the "activity" it seems,, Your a dad, so you know everthing is a production/logistic type thing... ha ha ha ha ha.... ;D There'd be no way I could have him out there longer than a couple hours, so what I do is limit our time, we'll just drive up for an hour or so. He still makes all his church stuff and friend stuff in the afternoons on saturdys and sundays, during the week after pre-school he's out playin in the yard with the neighbor kid lookin for bugs and usually diggin some kind of hole to china somewhere in the yard! :o I've got to show you some pix of his "NASCAR" project..... it's pretty cool. |
