Default Saturday, not so offshore report....

It was a beautiful night on the water with the full moon out. I got to the island about 1am and headed to a rig in the bay to catch bait. We caught bait as well as got on the redfish big time. It took us just a few minutes to get a two man limit. We then ran the redfish back to the truck so we could (legally) go offshore. They were all within slot except one. Had a limit of reds in the truck at 3am…not too shabby. 8)

Chuck with his #2 and # 3 redfish for his fishing career.

Ol Mr goodlookin with a couple

We made our truck drop and then headed south to a rig between us and my destination. We hooked up here and caught a few kings before daybreak. It was a little rough for night running so I waited here until daylight.

A king:

We caught a few more this size and probably could have caught A LOT more, but after a few…I said ok…that’s enough! ::)

All released of course.

We then waited for light and ran on out to one of my favorite rigs to the West. We got a couple small snapper and that was it. Things were really slow so I slipped up front to lay down for a bit while Chuck took rod duty. I was dozing when he yelled that something “big” was on. I was half asleep as I jumped to my feet and realized he was right. Something was peeling 80lb off of a 6/0 like it was a Zebco 33! :o He was holding on tight, but the fish was headed around the rig. I quickly jumped into go mode and reeled up all the lines, unhooked the rig hook rope and threw it off. I cranked up and took off after it. Chuck had been on this fish for about thirty minutes when we got our first (and only) look at him. His back was killing him anyways so it was probably for the best. He broke us off right after this.I did want to get a better boat side picture, but this will have to do. The pic don’t do it justice, but I estimated him easily a solid 8’.

Hammerhead:

Shortly after that we hit a couple wrecks and did no good. I wish I would have stayed more East now, but you cant win em all. :o

Total for the day:

We headed back home with a less than impressive offshore catch but it was nice knowing those reds where in the truck. ;D

Nice reds. I love to catch the slots on light tackle. They're some tasty little devils too. ;)
