Default New Project- with pictures...

Hello all. I had another thread going about a new v20 project I recently got for $500 (including trailer), so here's another one- this time with pictures and some further info.

Decoded the hull and motor serials- 77 V20 with a 86 Merc 200 EPTLO. #1 cylinder in powerhead has a groove and will need to be bored, whole thing needs to be rebuilt. Looks like it either overheated and had an oil injection problem. Lower unit looks great, will have a better view after I get the powerhead off. Electrical looks intact and clean.

Hull looks sound- I'd like to get the entire outboard off to see what the stern looks like under there. Definitely picked over- gauges missing, windshield gone. Also came with an array of fine redneck junk- including grapling hook anchor and improvised fuel/oil tanks. The rusted bracket on the stern looks like they converted from OMC to Merc steering- then tried to squirt it with spray paint and miss- or something...

(ignore the trash bag over the power head, just keeping the rain out while the heads are off...)

Certainly not a total lost cause, but you've definately got your work cut out for yourself.
Nice Rubicon. ;) 8)

Question- is the fuel tank in the gunwale factory? There's fuel fillers in both gunwales- the starboard side has a tank and there's fuel in it.

Bunk, that tank IS factory...supposed to be another one under the port gunwale...each are 20 gals for original total of 40 gals...FIRST thing I did when I got my '74 (it was set up w/both factory tanks still in tact), was to REMOVE puppies and replace w/twin 40s (total 80 gals) under seat boxes...if you're gonna keep that Merc, you might wanna consider doin' the same...see 'em in my Gallery if ya wanna... ;)...

Unless there's something the pics don't show, you got a great start for the price...lotta work ahead, but it'll pay off ;D 8)...

Awesome- thank you for the fuel tank info. I didn't know if there was a tank in the hull or not. That was one part is was worried about!
