I've done it several times, but now I use epoxy coated pvc tubing instead. Pathfinder boats uses this method and I believe it does a better job of sealing the transom. Just find the correct size of pvc for your rubber plug to fit(cant remember size off hand), open up the transom hole size with a hole saw(also easy way to remove the brass tube). Dry it out well(either method). Coat the pvc with epoxy(silicone for eth brass tube) and install. With the brass tube, you will need to cut it to fit and flare the ends, they make a tool for this. With the pvc, let it dry, then cut to fit, sand to get a closer fit
