So in the 2016 election Trump won because he got more electoral votes even though Clinton got more popular votes. In the 2020 election Biden got more electoral votes and more popular votes. However there were 3 states that Biden won that had a total vote difference of just 64000 votes that if Trump had won them instead of Biden Trump would have won the election based on electoral votes.
