Geez Blue, you’re killing me. But there may be hope, my buddy from 7th grade who got me started fishing probably 25 years ago texted me today and we’re going to the river Wednesday. He says a friend of his landed six Chinook yesterday in the Willamette River (it runs through Portland and into the Columbia) - anyway, we’re going to give it a shot. I’ll report if we have success.

His brother lives in Petersburg Alaska and he goes up every year to fish for a week - I may go with him this year.

My dad was born in Tatitlek, AK back in 1911 and he used to tell about the salmon runs so thick that you couldn’t get your oars in the water - what a time to live.

Sounds like a terrific honeymoon for the kids - even in Alaska, you’re not guaranteed anything like that kind of catch.

They planned the whole thing out themselves and booked charters. They stayed in 3 different air BNB's. I'll get the details on where they fished and pass them along

Hey Blue,

Yesterday’s birthday trip was a success, except for the catching fish part. Very nice day on the river with an old friend catching up and reminiscing about some of the mischief we got into. Fishing from 5 AM to around 12:30, I got the only (pretty anemic) takedown - the fish was gone before I got the rod out of the holder. We saw a few fish taken and more released (can only keep hatchery Salmon).

Looking forward to hearing where your daughter and new hubby fished and what guide(s) they used. I’m really hoping to head to Petersburg next year and see how many Salmon and crab we can murder, and if they had success near there, might book a halibut trip.

Scott, sounds like a fun trip minus the fish. It happens. Sometimes it is amazing what difference a day makes. I'm mostly a drift fisherman so no wind = no fish many times.

Let me get that info on the places and guides they used. I'll let you know once I find out.
