Taking on some water???

Thanks for the advice and warm welcome guys. As soon as I get down to the boat I’ll snap some pictures. I store it just down the street at the marina so it shouldn’t be too difficult. When trying to remove soft spots on the deck do you have to remove the entire deck? Like the top from the hull?? Or can you just remove the bad sections and replace them?? I haven’t ever done a project like that so I have no idea how hard it would be...

And once soft spots are removed.... how hard is it to paint the deck? Do you need to use gel coat? Or is it just deck paint. Thanks everyone!
