California last week passed an order allowing the government to take over hotels, motels and private buildings to shelter people infected with the Covid-19 virus. "And just like that" we lost our 3rd amendment rights.
"No soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the owner, nor in time of war, but in manner to be prescribed by law".(The courts have held that seizing another person property either temporarily or permanently without due compensation is a violation of the 3rd amendment).

New Jersey and several other states have made it illegal to sell guns and ammo while the shelter in place order is in effect. (Selling liquor and drugs is ok, that's "essential", but selling guns so people can protect themselves from looters isn't). "and just like that" we lost our 2nd amendment rights.
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Several states have passed or are in the process of passing "shelter in place" laws... (Can you say Martial law)? "and just like that" we lost our 1st amendment rights.
(Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances).

So our 1st, 2nd and 3rd amendment rights are gone, in order to "protect" us. I wonder how long it will be before we lose the others? Yes, I'm sure that after the virus pandemic dies down we'll have those rights restored, but I'm just posting this to show you how fragile those rights are and how easily we can lose them... all under the guise of protecting us. (Nothing could be further from the truth). It's all about controlling us. Think about it, next time you hear someone talking about how good Socialism or Communism is....

What I posted is fact, easily checked by even the smallest of reviews. Have you tried to get a gun permit since the shelter in place order went into effect?

(Several other states have also tried to do the same thing, including our neighbor, Pennsylvania). Their order lasted for 48 hours until they were sued and they rescinded it. NJ has two lawsuits already and right now it's tied up in courts.

The fact is our rights, as guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States, are being taken away from us under the guise of "protecting" us. It's the exact same ploy that dictators have used for decades (if not century's) to gain control over us. If you're happy with that, it's all well and good. As for me, I'm not happy with it and I prefer to speak up about it.

After 9/11 they passed the Patriots Act that allowed them to spy on Americans. (They are "protecting us) Tens of thousands of cameras are everywhere, and now they are trying to get them all tied together into a National data bank. (Can you say "Big Brother")? New driver licenses are coming out ( Starting October 1, 2020, you must have a REAL ID compliant driver license/ID to fly within the U.S., unless you use a U.S. passport or another federally approved form of identification). This is a National Registration program. Sounds like Nazi Germany (papers please... let me see your papers)
Hell, half the Democrat party wants to turn us into a Socialized Country, even though Socialism has NEVER worked... not even once, and has usually led to Communism or some form of a dictatorship. Since the 60's the left has been brainwashing and indoctrinating our children. It started in the colleges, (90% of College professors are either far left or avowed Communists) worked it's way into high school and is now in grade schools. I could cite you several other examples, but you get the idea. So if I sound like a Drama Queen, or Chicken Little, or whatever moniker you want to hang on me, it's all good.

I'm old, I'll probably be dead long before we completely lose all our freedoms. But tell me, what are you going to tell your children or your grandchildren, when they ask you why you kept quiet and didn't speak up as your (and their) freedoms were taken away?

I don't want to get into a long dissertation on the evils of Socialism nor Fascism...in the end they are the same.

What I do know is that the first words in the Constitution are "WE the People"

The government is "WE", whether you agree with the current one entirely or not. The government IS America. Its not America without it.

Too many people are worried about THEM. They don't believe in WE the People. They don't really believe in America and all its complications and compromises.
They don't understand that everything you have is tied to everyone else.

This country will end when some armed minority of the people think the government is THEM and start using guns against their neighbors and law enforcement. Then people are forced to pick sides and you get Yugoslavia all over again. What will you do? You gonna round up "them" and make them disappear? Is that going to save America? Save your Freedom?

I cant believe there isn't a gov owned place they can shelter people? I have never been to California and never will.
Everytine you turn around they are taking something else away. Right now they are trying to pass a bill that I have to get a permit to buy ammo. I just got my oxy and accetalene tanks filled, no permit.
Yeah they shut down gun shops for a couple days. THey should sell bottled water like the beer distributers, they can stay open.

Don t know about California, but i just wondering how many empty hotel, motel, condo rooms are sitting empty in Florida with 3 or 4 full rolls of toilet paper in them.

and btw, every State has control over the use of land in the state. You don't really own your land, you own the rights to use it in accordance with the State's authority. The state's authority comes from the people of the state..past, present and future. It has always been that way. It has to be that way.

What they can't do is quarter soldiers in your home...and even that amendment is a little squishy.

Of course I own my land. I am not it's leaser, I am it's owner. The ONLY right the state has is to take my land "for the common good" but ONLY after paying me it's just worth. Even then, the states right of eminent domain is not absolute. It can be challenged in the courts and if the courts rule in favor of the owner the state cannot take the land.

I agree that the state has the right to limit certain activities on the land if those activities would adversely impact other land owners. That's just common sense. For instance, if you live on a 100' x 150' plot of land and you have a neighbor that lives 250' away from you you cannot hunt game with a high powered rifle. Nor can you drill for oil or a host of other things. Those limits are to protect others, not because the state owns the land. The states do have the right to limit or set aside certain areas for certain uses. For instance a land owner cannot build a large factory in an area zoned for residential use since that could adversely effect neighbors values of their homes and could impact their quality of living.

I'm not sure what you mean by "secured" leases. Ca took the vacant hotels, motels, etc under the guise of a national emergency. They did not reach an agreement with the owners first. That "may" have happened later. https://www.natlawreview.com/article...deering-hotels

In all cases, my original post was and still is about showing everyone just how fast, under the guise of "protecting" us, they can lose some or all of their Constitutionally given rights. (And this, perhaps more than any other reason, is why we must never let our 2nd amendment rights be taken from us. IMHO) I don't think that makes me a drama queen. Personally,
I prefer the moniker of "Patriot".

Try NOT paying taxes on it and you'll see whether you OWN it.

When I say you don't own it I mean you don't don't own the right to do whatever you want to it. Its not YOURS free and clear forever. The state holds conditions on it. It has to be that way because you are going to die and because you have "neighbors". In this democracy of ours, the State is the people of the state now and in the future.
