Default Mercury Verado 500 hp

Was just reading about the 4.6 l rumored motor.

That’s a nice number..” 500 hp “

So what to expect on a V21 ?
Figure 10 mph per 100 hp so it should push my rig close to 80 mph

Yup, just before it tears the tail off your boat and sinks to the bottom of Raritan Bay. :)

I remember when a 200 hp was considered huge .
Actually before that .....the 135 hp Evinrude was it, then the Merc 150.

If you want some serious boat and motor envy - take a look at the youtube videos of Haulover Pass in Florida by ZipZapPower. The guy has a whole series of videos just of boats going in and out of Haulover Pass in all sea conditions.

Thirty to forty-five foot center console boats with 3, 4, or even 5 motors of 250/300/400 Hp. He occasionally shows a few 60 to 90 foot yachts going in and out also.

You can spend a few hours just watching these videos

I had an evinrude 235 in the mid 80 s. I thought no way can they get bigger than this, then the 300 came out. Looked like a refrigerator on the back of a boat.

235 was fast but i think it used fuel for cooling, i ve never seen an engine use so much gas

I have a 150 merc and she pushes my baby about 35 mph, that's fast enough for me especially in and around raritan bay with all the flotsom floating around.I hit a whale two years ago going about 15 mph can you imagine what would have happened if I was going 80 ,I wouldn't be writing this today . I'm very happy with what I have.
