someone makes a cast net with a small metal ring near the center (about 14 inches dia.) this makes the net really easy to throw even for children, after I got older and could no longer cast a net, this allowed me to continue.

I use one for bait all the time. Usually an 8 ft with quarter inch mesh for pinfish, finger mullet, etc. used to throw a 12 ft with 1 inch mesh for mullet in my younger days.

I have found the ones with a larger ring throw easier and heavier leads size help. Also repair any rips or holes, it s amazing how many baits can find a 2 inch hole in a 200 square foot net.

You tube has some great how to videos

Cool

I learned to throw one while I was in the Navy. Guy on board the Destroyer I was on had one and used to throw it from the stern anytime we were anchored in port. Not really sure of the size.. I think it was an 8 footer. But it was amazing when I saw all the fish he would bring up, so I asked him if he would teach me. He did and I've used one for years and years afterwards. Time has a nasty way of catching up to us all, and it's been a while since I've used one. I prefer to use Killie Traps instead to catch my bait for fluking. Way less work. :)
