Cool Reelapeelin's Belly Tank lid solution.

This is from Reelapeeling. He asked me to post these pics. They show his solution to Wellcraft's poor way of fastening down the lid over the belly tank. He installed starboard cleats under each screw hole for some "reel" pull down power. He commented that he hoped this helps others solve this problem as well. Looks like the perfect answer to the problem.

I did almost exactly the same thing but with some plexiglas a buddy brought over after I suggested using wood. Starboard would be a lot better material for the purpose. I did find it to be a fair amount of work cutting some very hard material out of the way to get the little blocks in under the edge in some places - gave my oscillating multitool a real workout but it got done and the tank lid is secure.

Great pictures - should help the guys do it.

Also might want to isolate the tank from the strips of PT wood. They usually had a couple of rubber strips between the tank and the wood.

Bicycle shop for scrap inner tubes - should be about right width for that. Handy for other things too.

Very good idea. I absolutely love starboard. I’m in the process of replacing a lot of wooden pieces on my Egg with starboard. Stuffs not cheap that’s for sure, but worth it.

Destroyer...thanks a ton for posting the pics!!......and conveying what I had in mine for everybody.

The starboard is a bulletproof material for this...easy to work and will hold a screw forever. Long ago I realised the cap was seperating from the hull on my old '74...I installled starboard strips inside the hull, pulled the cap down in place and ran screws thru cap and hull and into the starboard...then ran 4200 all the way around the gap...lotta work but it stopped the water intrusion and was still solid as a rock til I let her go many years later

The couple of places that don't have a cleat have that hard material too...It'll take a grinding wheel on the sidegrinder to get these done

And thanks for the reminder about the rubber isolators between the wood crossmemebers and aluminum tank...I knew there was SOMETHING missing!!

Thanks again Paul...see ya soon!...

You're very welcome Oz. Need to get brakes done and oil changed and should be ready to go. Looking forward to meeting you.
