The problems are that

1) your alarm will constantly sound
2) your oil injection will still work and inject oil into your premixed gas, changing the ratio from 50:1 to something like 25:1 which will foul your plugs, carbon your rings, etc.
3) it will smoke like a ba$tard
3) I'm sure there are other things I've forgotten, but that pretty much covers it.

So no, you have to disconnect the unit. It's really not hard. I'll send you the steps to do it. SpareParts sent them to me ages ago when I converted my 1991 Merc and I've kept them on hand since then.
