Well, st joe bay is closed in indefinatly so we're loading up and heading to greener pastures. Wondering if anybody has ever gone out of there. Supposed to have a decent crop this year.

Any info would be appreciated

I haven't been out due to recent shoulder surgery, but I think this must have been a decent year. We were finding some on the beach at Pine Island(little beach just north of Bayport). You hardly ever hear of them in the shallows, and people were finding them all over.

Thanks ferm, i was mending from surgery last year, so i know what you mean.. we haven't been in 3 years. That tropical storm that just blew through didn't help any and the forecast looks spotty. We're going to go anyway, probably a waste of time and money, but wife and daughter are in education and this is the last week of their summer. So, we go.

It almost don't hurt my feelings when we don't limit out. LOL! Cleaning them is far from my favorite pastime.
Look at it this way; You get to be with family while running the boat, picnic, swimming, could be worse.
In other words, the catching is a bonus.
No intel from me yet, sorry...

Well, not all things went as planned. We went, but the weather didn't cooperate. Was beautiful Monday and Tuesday. We got there Tuesday afternoon bout 4, got checked in and rode around town to check it out. That took about 12 minutes, so went to the Sea Hag Marina for a beer. Sat on the deck and watched happy people clean scallops for an hour. Got psyched up for the next day. Woke up to rain squalls and strong onshore winds.

Saw a 3-4 hour window bout 11, got out to scallop grounds , hit the water for 30 minutes. Got 16, not great, but a start. Then the squall hit.

Got back in the river for protection. Tried a few more times, but never got back in the water. Woke up this morning to constant rain and squalls. Drove home in the rain for 4 hours and looking for rain all weekend.

Bottom line:
Steinhatchee was great, first time but hopefully not last.
Scalloping, not so great.
Three days with family was worth it.(Ridge is right)
