I'm using a Lowrance Elite 4X Chirp which works well for me. I use it in the local freshwater lakes to find trees and brushpiles while crappie fishing.
I keep it on the 40' range out in the lake or 20' range near the bank. The sonar works great and the down imaging doesn't seem to be quite as good but I most likely don't have it adjusted properly. I got it free with the 1977 Wellcraft V20 Center Console I'm working on and currently use it while fishing out of my 1964 Skeeter.
