WHO says having more than one boat is an addiction? Hogwash.. !!! Simply not true!

Oh, I got this over the weekend..... Engine will go on my V21, trailer will go under the V20. V21's engine will go on the V20. The boat will either be stripped and scrapped or just the controls for the engine removed and then sold if anyone here wants a 20' center console with a cracked transom. (Accident, not rotted) See? All very logical... No addiction at all.........

Destroyer, it's ok, you're still in denial. You have to be ready to accept help, nobody can do it for you. Don't worry, when you're ready we'll be here for you.

I have a confession to make to the group. For the last couple of months I haven't been updating my signature with new project boats I've had pass through the yard. Hiding them in friends yards temporarily has left me with feelings of guilt. Plus I've thought that y'all here probably thought I was just trying to show off. Feels better to get that off my chest.

BTW, I turned DOWN two free boats this week, one with a galvanized trailer.

V21 is not wider. just adds a foot onto the transom...like a very short bracket.
It is gonna allow you more space behind your console to fish and still be able to raise the motor.

Don't see how you could make a 350 i/o centerconsole unless you put the helm way way forward

besides , everyone knows cuddy is the way to go!

How bad is the crack? Could it be plated just to hang my 130 on the back?

While I think owning both and center console as well as a cuddy V-20 would be great I'm just not a big fan of the cuddy's. I can't give a good reason, I'm not sure what it is about them. But slapping a bracket on this one with a 200 to match the Green Machine would be pretty cool. The more I think about it the less I want to keep it IB/OB.

I guess once I have a chance to go get it and see what kind of shape it's really in we will go from there. If I got to pop the cap and replace floors, stinger and the whole 9 yards I'll convert it to a big wide open center console for sure. Of course I'm super busy at work all week and this storm is supposed to smash us this weekend so thinking about heading to the mountains to a family cabin to dodge the storm. Hopefully he won't sell it before I can get there and if so then I guess it just wasn't meant to be.

The transom is thinner that a V20's... I'd say 1 1/2" thick. It cracked right at the top 2 bolts. The Todd cooler seat with a flip backrest is in good mechanical shape but the upholstery is shot. All the controls seem to be in good shape. The steering is nice and free. According to the PO the steering cable is only 1 year old. Zero signs of rust or any damage on it. I've already removed the engine and will be towing the boat to my house, probably tomorrow. The bottom two bolts have a full length plate across them and I don't see any signs of damage. The top two bolts only had a small square of plate behind each one and that's probably why the transom cracked. On a score of 1-10 with 10 being brand new I'd give the overall condition of the boat a solid 5. The hull is solid. It's dirty and needs some TLC, and of course the transom needs to be reinforced or replaced, but with a lighter engine it just might be feasible. Officially the boat is 19'6" in length. I'd call it 19 foot realistically. If you want to take a look at it before I start stripping it let me know. I'll PM you my phone number. The tandem axle trailer under the boat is not included in the sale, but I have a good single axle trailer with papers that's sitting under my V20 that is included. The two Cannon downrigger mounts are not included.

Just picked up a 1977 V20 center console with Evinrude 150 and tandem axle trailer to go along with my 1984 V20 Cuddy. The CC needs some work but as I tell the wife - "it keeps me out of the bars"

i really like your build ideas. i/o vs outboard??? ithink it gotta be a personal preference to go i/o. if form follows function then the outboard wins hands down in all aspects. lighter, faster, more fuel efficient, more room onboard and as far as working on it goes, a 2stroke outboard is a much simpler and usually more reliable design. if you learned your way around a 350 you will learn your way around an outboard. but if you want an i/o... thats pretty effing cool too!

every inch of a boat is a compromise and there are always pros and cons to every design decision. and thats why having two boats is such a huge advantage. especially when they are both the same hull. think about it. you got a boat in the water. your not missing out on anything cause your boat isnt finished. you can take your time, do it right. you will never cut a corner, scale back or compromise cause youre itching to get your boat in the water. thats gotta help the build quality. plus having one so similar on the water... youve got a really good idea of what you want, how well its gonna work and what youve gotta give up to get it.

for what youre talking about doing i truly hope that you dont leave any wood in that boat. seacast is kinda heavy but extra weight in the stringers isnt a bad idea. maybe a layer or two of kevlar around the stringers and in the nose use heavier materials below the water line to make that puppy rock solid. then save as much weight as you can topside on hatches, gunnels and such. watch ebay for cf reminents. keep the cog low. i say go for it, built not bought!

This is my exact thinking. I can take 2 or 3 years to build a rock solid, life long boat as long as I have one I can use regularly.

As for the wood in the boat, ideally I would like to have no wood at all in the boat. Seacast is the pourable stuff correct? I have a bad taste about some composites as my buddy's boat had a composite floor put in and around his gas tank it actually got soft and spongy due to water getting in screw holes. I thought that was the sole purpose of the composite?? Not sure exactly what it was but I need to try to find out so I can avoid it.

DESTROYER - I share your thought process of matching / swapping / rigging from more than one rig to set up another......

I " run this equation " when I start thinking about next boat possibilities.

In a minor way, I did so by selling my last boat, buying the V21 for 1/2 the sold boat money, then using the $$ to buy new trailer, and rig it with used low hour Etec 200 HO, and sold the motor it came with........a great evinrude !50 looper.

It can be a good way to limit the spend ( sort of ) by using older boat packages where it can work out.
