Hello all-
I really enjoy the fishing posts, so I thought I would post a few photographs of our walleye season so far. Spent most of April and May at Anchors Away Marina in Marblehead, Ohio. We are now back at our home port in Fairport Harbor, Ohio. The fishing has been good and we expect the good fishing to continue. Walleye through July and most of August, then the yellow perch bite turns on. We will fish the perch bite till it's time to pull the boat for the winter. Notice the sea lamprey attached to the walleye in the second photograph. That was a derby fish, nearly ten pounds. We were hoping that the lamprey would not drop off before we had the fish weighed, but we knew it was wishful thinking. Tight lines, Ed ![]() ![]() ![]()

I love fish photographs too. So, post away
![]() What do walleye Sander vitreus taste like... They along with yellow perch Perca flavescens are arguably the best tasting freshwater fish out there. Bluegill and other assorted sunfish and crappie are fine tablefare also, but walleye and yellow perch are considered by many to be the best. Characteristics of walleye, light flaky fillets of mild flavor. I do not keep anything but walleye and yellow perch. Both can be pan fried, deep fried, poached, baked, broiled, grilled, steamed, microwaved or made into soups or chowders. Use your imagination!

Fishing is still hot although we are sorting through small and sub-legal fish. While it is an inconvenience it is a positive indicator of a healthy walleye population in Lake Erie. It has been more than a decade since I have had to measure a walleye to determine if it was legal to box. Recruitment from 2014 and 2015 was outstanding and will provide outstanding angling opportunities for the next fifteen years. Hopefully 2016 will continue this trend.
We have switched from crankbaits to spoons. While some anglers are fishing worm harnesses, we are doing well on spoons. A few photographs too!! Tight Lines!! ![]() ![]() ![]()
