The injection system is gone. However if it wasn't it'd be gone soon as I got her. I've lost 2 OMC motors due to bad VRO's and although Mercurys system may not have such a bad rep as OMC I wouldn't chance it. Although I do have a 150 Yamaha on my other boat that is injected and I have just went with that so what do I know. I'm sure they all can go bad just don't hear of the Yamahas going out so often.
Merc's had a GREAT system that has an fatal flaw. They made the gear that powers their injection system out of plastic. It would heat up, strip the teeth and most times by the time the no oil warning horn sounded the damage was done and the engine was toast. The easy fix is to either pre-mix like most people do or go to an electrical injection like I did. Both work well and that engine (the same type as I have) should last you a good long time. I love mine.

I'm just gonna premix. Well until I can talk the wifey into slapping a new 200 Verado on it. Went today to my Merc dealer to get plug wires and a zinc and he had 200 sitting there calling my name. My old lady would kill me but as they say, a lot easier to ask for forgiveness then permission.

Thumbs up

Looks like you might have gotten a nice boat considering what she looked like originally. Those rod boxes and hatches can easily be painted. I'd be sure of the engine situation first though before spending any money in other areas. Good man for taking off those graphics, she appreciates it.

If you're ever in Savannah and want some 351 Cleveland parts let me know.

Welcome

I'm sure she does appreciate it. Hopefully the motor is fine. If not I have a couple different options, hell I'll put the Yamaha 150 off the Striper on it if it comes down to it, that motor is perfect. I plan on ditching the Striper anyways.

When it comes time to start on the Allmand I may need plenty of motor parts. The engine in it is seized up and the risers and all look shot. I really wanted to switch it all over to a SBC but not sure if I want to take it that far. But that project is probably a few years down the road. I got the boat for free so before I committed to it I figured it'd be worth the $$ to have a surveyor tell me if the hull was any count. Turned out to be solid as a rock. Seems if I put a new drivetrain in her she'd be ready to go. It was abandoned at my moms marina floating in the boathouse so she obviously floated.

About the same situation with the old Chaparral 21. Previous old man spent a bunch of money re doing the old OMC outdrive and then got old and the boat sat for years. The 351 and out drive are pretty much obsolete, but def worth it for parts if that's what you already have.

FREE to whoever can USE it, drive train wise.

I know I'm late, but welcome fellow Virginian!

Lime and purple is one of my favorite color combos, but I agree, it looks better without the lettering. Congrats!
