I can remember when there was a 13" limit, 18" fish won the pool on party boats. I'm glad there are more big fish now but forcing us to work thru a hundred shorts for an 18" fish is ridiculous and doesn't help the fluke. I haven't limited the boat out since they went above 16", like 10 years ago. I am totally discouraged with fluking, I'm tired of releasing 17 7/8ths fish. As a boat owner, I'd be happy with 2 at 16". Then I could keep a tasty dinner anytime I want without leaving the river. Hell, I could stand on my bow at the dock and limit out. I'm sticking with stripers into July. Then hoping for some offshore runs for tuna and mahi. I have some cod spots that have paid off from May thru August too.

It seems like a no win situation, with fish population dropping, the bigger issue is MUCH bigger. Tough on those trying to make a living from fishing. Tough on recreational, tough on the fish populations. |
