I agree there are plenty of V 20 for sale with old 2 stroke gas gulping ,smokey outboards.
Not any for sale with a like new 4 stroke engine still under warranty with everything new professional installed with S 17,000 in recepits from mercury dealship...My asking price is less then what a new 150hp 4stroke would cost . Steering system and trim tabs alone were $1500 without labor ...then add in new transom and deck was redone profesional for $2800. Then add in ss prop.icom vhf.fusion radio.comtrols multi gauge that another$2000....$20.000 spent on this boat All this boat needs is the hull to be painted and bow railing and its basically would be lile new .As you all know Far better hull then themost being produced today...... Wish I cpuld hace found this kind of boat for 10.000 when i was looking for a center console.... I might place on ebay or give to used boat dealer next week to sell it.Otherwise I will prep hull and have someone spray it with algrip and sell its for more...i didnt expect to get all my money back but for 10.000 this is cheap fpr a great riding hull with dependable outboard motor..... |

The pictures were upright on my cell ...Don't know why they posted like that.
I decided to swap outboards.I am going to remove the 2013 Mercury 150 from the V 20 and install a 2006 suzuki 150 from my new ised boat.. Then lower price.o the f wellcraft ..From what i have read online the Mercury give you a true 150 plus Hp since its has more displacement.then other 150 plus weights 30 lbs less. The mercury offers more torque since the lower unit gearing is higher....I can use this lower torque on my doqneaster type hull.... What do you guys feel is fair asking price for my wellcraft v 20 with suzuki installed. Thanks |

Lot of factors coming in to play here. This is just my two cents, so defantly not carved in stone.
--Older massed produced hull that can be had for free or cheap if you look. --Set up as a commercial crab boat, turns off all but a very few niche buyers. Yet the puller is not included, adding additional expense to someone who might be interested in it for that purpose. --Expensive used outboard engine that has seen commercial use. A good engine, but still not new, will turn off some buyers who have the cash for a BRAND new engine, but still expensive for those just getting into boats or moving up from something smaller. --Rugged no frills set up is cool for commercial work or fishing, but zero creature comforts for those who have to get the purchase approved by their old lady. --Raised deck is good for it's intended use as a crab boat, but not good for some one bottom fishing 40-50 miles off the east coast in a swell. --No trailer included. Me and a couple people I can name on one hand have an extra trailer or two laying around capable of hauling a boat that size. Everyone else gets to buy a new trailer, $$$. Or shop around the depths of craigslist looking for one that will fit a V-20 hull, is in decent enough condition, and isn't too expensive because the boat itself is kinda high. --Boat is in extreme SW Florida. A decent haul for everyone I'd say north of Orlando area, which is a long haul from just about everywhere else. A lot of people in that area already have a boat or two and so far this one doesn't have anything that makes it a screaming deal that they are willing to buy it. Again, not knocking you or the boat, just my 2 cents from a guy that sells a lot of boats and motors, owns or has owned 6 different variants of a V-20, cruises craigslist 1-2 times a day, and I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express once. I like the boat and think you should keep her and run the heck out of her and let her earn her keep. Sell her turn key with the puller and a trailer in a few years to someone who wants to get into the crab business.

You do have some valid points however used as very light commercal crab boat only twice per month ...
.I have decided to swap motors and place my suzuki 150 4 stroke on the wellcraft.I recently purchased a 2002 dual axle trailer for the v 20...Once i get done with this boat i will then sell for less and someone will get solid boat turn key for a very fair price..... |

Gene, I think you're missing the point of everyone else's posts. You keep going back to what you're going to do, or how much you have in her, or this or that. But you're not listening to what people are saying. You're hearing them, but you're not listening. Your boat is worth a lot less than you think it is. There is a saying that something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it, and unless you find someone that is new to boating and doesn't know squat or is very rich and doesn't give a damn about money, you are not going to sell your boat for anywhere near what you are asking. Fact I don't mean to disparage you or your boat, but in my humble opinion, you're being unrealistic in your asking price. Fact is, even with the 150 zuke on it and with a tandem trailer in good shape I'm betting that boat will not sell for more than $7000, and probably closer to $4500 - 5500. I hope you get your asking price. As they say, there's one born every minute. But I'm sorry, I just don't want you to get your hopes up unrealistically.
As an example, Last year I missed a 1996 V21 with a sweet running, ultra quiet 200 Yammy engine on it, with full enclosure, bolsters, trim tabs and a tandem trailer. I thought the asking price of $7200 was too high, and a day later when I went back to buy it, it was gone... It sold for $6800. That boat was in far, far better shape than yours is, and we're talking about the Eastern Seaboard of New Jersey, where things cost much more than the rest of the country. What I and everyone else is trying to tell you is your price is unrealistically too high and your boat will not sell. I'm sorry, but that's the bottom line.

Offshore boats just are not bringing good money down here anymore either. Unless it is a 25 footer or bigger, there isn't a big market. It's a tough sell to get somebody to buy a nearly 30 year old mass produced hull like the V-20(even if it has been redone) for muhc money even with newer power. Skiffs are bringing good money down here now, but with all of the fishing regs offshore type boats have fizzled down in recent years. I saw the writing on the wall and sold my offshoree boat several years back, and took a BEATING on it for reasons just like destroyer spoke of. It is only worth what somebody is willing to pay, and unless you're willing to sit on it for months waiting on just teh right buyer, you're going to have to come down on your price. Otherwise be prepared to spiffy her up and make her look like a new contender or something to get a buyer willing to spend that kind of money on it.
