Hopefully Ferm or Spare will jump in here, but all opinions are welcome.
So my neighbor (retired mechanic) was looking at my engine with me and became concerned that the hoses are not routed correctly. Some pics are attached. He used some terms that I can't remember, but he really isn't familiar with this engine type at all... though it looked over-engineered. His concern was the routing of the hoses on top of these pics... looks kinda like a bypass. Looking up the parts breakdown, he could not find a tee in the hoses and thought mine looked weird. I thought it's possible that I improperly rerouted them with the engine disassembled. Also, the hoses coming off the carbs is different in each side. Anyone familiar with how these hoses should be properly routed? The engine runs great, but is hard to cold start, and the plugs foul up rather quickly. Thanks Last edited by awthacker; 03-24-2015 at 05:03 PM. |

Here are the hoses coming off the carbs.
Starboard side plugs into the hood that covers the carb intakes. Port side runs down into the block... couldn't get a good pic of that. |

the hose on top in first batch of pics looks a little out of place and the hose coming off the air box looks strange as well, i have a nearly identical johnson 150. my boat is still covered otherwise id go out and get a look. Ferm or spareparts will hook you up shortly

Thanks. It's possible that the hose from the tee should be venting to atmosphere in the top of that hood that covers the carb intakes. I take that hood off frequently and could possibly have confused the hoses

I'm not that familiar with the eagle series type engines, but it looks like the lines on top are for the primer solenoid. The hose coming from your airbox looks like it is plumbed into the enrichener rail, but there is normally a hose from the bottom of the airbox back into one of the intakes to keep oil from dripping out of the airbox and to burn it through the engine. Something is definately going on though with your hose routing. I wished I could get a better view of the hoses in your pics, but with how they're routed behind other stuff it is tough to tell what is what.
