| V-20 tows back a BEAST

Too much fish for the V-20...this one had to be towed. A painful 4-hour tow but with a smile on our faces. I hope everyone can share in my joy realizing that any fisherman could have caught this fish but I could say there were tense moments during a 2-1/2 hour battle. Only two of us aboard, one to drive, one to fight. I give much credit to my fishing partner who knew what needed to be done. This guy is a world-class fisherman. He was recently on the EXCEL, a long-range fishing boat out of San Diego, and also went to Panama. The first trip on the V was this past Friday and the rest is history. In no way am I bragging and claiming to be a super fisherman. I have respect for anyone on this site who goes the distance. Hopefully, the photos will tell the rest of the story. 450+ pounds, towed into Viking Village, Barnegat, NJ. Speaking of Viking Village, MUCH thanks to Ernie for coming to our assistance late in the day. IMG950198-3.jpg |

| Nice Fish

That's a big thresher! I caught one a few years ago out of Cape May and it was 295. Caught it on a 29 Phoenix with a transom door so I was able to bring it aboard. My boat neighbor took one today around 300lbs and last week 100 lbs. Great tasting shark as well and great catch on a V! |

Awesome! You got more balls than me. I would not have tried gaffing that sucker with a 2 man crew on a 20 footer. I plan on some shark trips this summer but I'll be releasing. Where were you? Threshers have been in fairly close. My brother got 2 in the Mud Hole last week.

Someone told me you lost a fish that was MUCH bigger than that the same day. I heard it was 25' long and looked something like a cross between a Great White and a Thresher. I heard it was estimated at 2,000lbs or more. Don't tell us the story...........it's too scary !! You're hard core all right. |
