Default Connect VHF to GPS

Anybody connect the wires (NMEA 0183 or 2000) between the units to enable DSC? If so how did you connect the wires? In my instance they aren't long enough plus they are just slightly larger than a human hair (ok maybe a little bit bigger than that).

I am curious to know how to do this the right way.

I'd like to know as well. I think I read somewhere that some type of interface is needed. Not sure where I saw that but I could be completely wrong.

I just twisted and taped but I was doing a temp install.....
The right way is the same as any wiring job... the correct gauge of crimp connector... preferably waterproof OR solder and heat shrink OR junction boxes/strips

This in the correct wire gauge is what we used to do that exeact application. When hooking up the GPS to VHF and with other electronics. I remember replacing the T-Top canvas on a 34' Fountain that took a wave over the bow, the radar didn't have a quick connect but instead a hard splice that we used those connectors to splice up.
