so after 35 years I finally decided to quit smoking. gave it up on the 27th of November, my 50th, and the first 2 weeks or so went ok. the usual cravings and triggers and wanting to stab every idiot in the neck with a pen. well, it's been almost a month and I broke down and got one of those e-cigs. supposed to be safer as i'm now inhaling vapor instead of smoke. don't know if it's much better but I do know that it aint nearly as satisfying. man, this sucks. I know I need to give it up for my health and for the boys but I've now taken to eating for 2. i'm up to about 280 and I don't forsee it coming off any time soon.
so my struggle will continue and I will continue to eat anything and everything I can fit in my mouth. don't know if I feel any healthier but I sure do want to phukking kill everybody I see. that is all.

You're on the right track my brother. You've come to realize that stopping smoking is not only about you, but also how your ill health would effect the ones you love the most. Ditch the e-cigs, they're just a crutch, and you'll never learn to walk fully if you keep using crutches. I was a 2 pack a day smoker for 42 years. I can tell you from experience that really, the only way to quit is how you started out. You just stop. No pills, no patches, no Hypnotist, no e-cigs..... nothing. And when you get the urge you just say to yourself something like "We're not doing that anymore". The urge itself goes away almost instantly when you reinforce your resolve with a verbal commitment like that. You can do it bro. As to the need to have the supermarket set up a conveyor belt right to your house.... ya, like all of us you're substituting one oral habit for another. And since you'r not putting Nicotine into your system, your metabolism is going to slow down also, which means you're going to put on weight. If you're like most people you'll "balance" out about 20-30 lbs heavier then when you were smoking. It's a small price to pay. And I look forward to meeting you...... sometime next summer... lol

It is all in your mind. Wait until you get offshore with the urge, on the hill the urge is awful powerful but you know that you can run to the store and pick some up, not the case offshore, especially when the stress of weather is testing you. I dislocated my TMJ by grinding my teeth and gum chewing. It has been a year plus. Those cigs freaking stink to high heaven to me now. I will probably never get the smell out of my truck. Heart doctor likes that I quit. I may have never met him without the smokes. If you need motivation, picture yourself standing there in your living room with the ghost of Christmas future and your not there.. It gets easier. Hang in there.

Good job man, I quit 1 year and 3 months ago today. I got this app on my Iphone that tracks how much money I have saved 1.25 years X 1.5 packs a day = 13,693 cigarettes @ $6.25 = $4279.05
3 minutes X 13,693 cigarettes = 41,079 minutes Divided by 60 = 228.21 hours Keep up the good work |

I quit the day my first daughter was born. I went from two packs a day to 2 cigs one day, to 0 the next 13 years. My motivation(besides not wanting my children to be subjected to me smoking) was remembering how hard the first day was, that got me thur the first week, then realizing how hard the first week was, that got me thru the first month, the first month got me thru the first year. The first year thru to now. Know how hard the past days, months, years were, and knowing it would get easier kept me from going back. If any of your friends smoke, stay away from them. I quit 5 years before and went back two years later because everyone I knew or hung around smoked, it made it that much harder the second time I quit.
