Unhappy skunked 4 weeks in a row

got out this morning. found birds working about two and a half miles out of Manasquan. saw some bass picking off bait from the surface, could not get a hit. Head boats headed south off of Ortley Beach so I followed. same thing, bait, fish on surface, could not get a hit. saw 2 nice 25-30 pound stripers caught on boats next to me. by 9 am it all disappeared and I was skunked again.

Skunk my good friend who fishes out of Raritan Bay has been skunked three times the past two weeks also.
Birds, crazy big marks on the screen etc.
He says there is so much bait in the water he has never seen it like this. Sand Eels by the billions. He also found out off shore there are gigantic pods of bunker and other bait with huge schools following them down the coast. Apparently a bunch of guys have been running out past the three mile mark and taking their chances.

Very hard to get a bite when the sand eels are the bait. Try slugos ,works for Bluefin tuna. Fish around the bunkers you will have better luck.

Been skunked here off Staten Island too in Raritan Bay. Never seen anything quite like this, with all the bait still around. Very weird year so far. Boat is coming out real soon though, so may have to wait until next year or hit the beaches.

Their everywhere now from Sandy Hook down to LBI and beyond. Left the dock 7AM out the inlet(Shark River) and got greeted by by nasty and windy seas along with stripers and blues. Almost everyone was hooked up mostly trolling but their was a jig bite if you got out early.Birds working and fish chewing.I hope it holds up for awhile so everyone could get in on it. Fished Thursday the 14th.

I agree with trolling umbrellas - tubes and shad rigs.
