And today my wife learned the "OTHER" side of obamacare. She finally found a Dr she likes, and he is leaving his practice as of December 15 because his salary got cut to the point he can't even pay his student loans, and all of the insurance companies are fleeing. So not only did we lose our insurance policy(had to settle for a CRAPPY HMO for MORE than were paying now), we are also losing our doctors we liked.

I pay for my own insurance and its one of those rare grandfathered policies that I've been with before all this crap came down. I pay a little over $250 on monthly premium with a $10,000 deductible. I haven't been to a doctor since a physical for high school sports over 20 years ago. I dont get sick, try to be careful, and eat well/take care of myself. You know what they say about no good deed going unpunished, I keep expecting to open the mail and have the letter saying "We regret to in form you......" . So far so good, but you know what they say, "All quiet on the western front".

ok here it goes. as i said my wife & i are self insured. we got a letter .from blue cross blue shield stating our currant plan would go away jan 31 and they had picked another plan close to what we had. that plan was 70% more than out currant plan. i felt we might be able to get the tax credit. so i went on line with no luck(kept getting kicked off).so this week i called the help line and talked with a nice gentleman and went thru the process. at the end we did qualify for the tax credit, now with that our policy will be 104.37 CHEAPER than what we were paying before. i dont like all this s*#t about this healtcare and i dont like OBAMA!! but i am grateful to recive the tax credit.the credit is based on your income and # of people in the household. the lower your income the more you can quailfy for. so its seems like if you want health insurance you cant make much money!

daydreamer, I believe the tax credit only applies if you take ACA insurance, not your private plan. from the way your post reads, its sounds like you are applying the tax credit to your personal plan. Everything I've read says that the tax credit only applies to O care enrollment. I may be wrong, but its based on what I've read. If the guy on the phone said so, I'd get his name and number, have him fax a copy of it to you with his signature on it. BTW, what kind of deductible, out of pocket difference did you get? My sister lives in Wake Forest, shes been trying to get some answers from the help line, so far she said they don't qualify for any tax credits, and the cost of insurance on a `10K/10K plan is %70 percent higher than what they were paying with a 5k/5k plan. They are self employed, run a small business, and don't make much money.

Aca=obama care. All new insurance has to be aca compliant regardless of where it comes from. Just to clarify my point(question) is from my understanding you have to enrole in Obama care to get the tax breaks, if your BC/bs plan is a private policy, you won't be eligible for the rebates.

If your retired and over age 65 signed up on Medicare, Humana Supplemental is free.. they send the bill to uncle Sam. It literally saved my boss and father-in-law thousands in premiums over United Health Care and AvMed. A couple of things to point out: None of the policies I see have very much going for them with respect to the out of pocket and deductible costs. Premiums are more OR they are offset by higher deductibles and out of pocket. OR both Of course if you are one of the millions of low income folks that just got placed on Medicaid, you are stoked right about now. $1.4 Trillion is the number the Bugetary Office came up with over the next 10 years. I am no mathmetician but you could pay a lot of medical bills with $1.4T. In theory, I could see some savings for those with individual plans. Some of those are crazy high to begin with. COBRA comes to mind.. Thanks for posting something positive daydreamer. There must be something good in it. I urge others to share their experiences. Good or bad.

All I know is my wife is PISSED that she is losing her doctor Dec 15. And then there is the little fact it will cost us $5000 MORE if I have my surgery next year than it will this year. Or the fact we lost our policy we liked with acceptable out of pocket costs to a basic HMO with HUGE out of pocket costs. And I'm sure since we didn't get dropped(just switched policy types), we won't be able to stay on for what we are paying now or our current policy even with o saying you can keep your policy for another year. He sees the writing on the wall and knows if he doesn't quieten the masses some that it will be MURDER come the next election cycle. So he will just slow down the implementation some so people will not go ballistic as fast(think gas prices, if they would have went from $1 to $3 overnight people would have rioted, but because it happened over time people just went with it. And now we think $3 a gallon is cheap.).
