Default Portsmouth Island, NC

Went to Portsmouth Island, NC last week with 5 guys from church. The weather was perfect and the fish were biting.

We caught Red Drum, Flounder, Blues, Trout, Whiting, Spots, Pompano, and plenty of skates (&^$#%$@).

We ate fish for dinner each night and brought home plenty, was a great trip.

A few pics:

View from the front porch of our cabin.

Fishin.

One of two keeper Red Drum caught.

We probably caught 40 Flounder...only 6 keepers, this one was 18 inches.

Short but fun.

Sunrise from the back porch of the cabin.

Sunset from the fish cleaning table.

Traveling the road behind the dunes around the beach areas closed to vehicles because of sea turtle nests.

In the one pic you can see the cabins, there are 10 or 12 buildings there that you can see from the beach, the rest of the 22 or so miles of beach are building free.

Looks like ya"ll had a great time. I"ve always wanted to go over to Portsmouth Island. We go down to Ocracoke about every other year. I'd love to retire down there. I didn't know there was cabins for rent on Portsmouth Island. Did you use Long Point Cabins? Watched some videos on youtube, Beautiful place!!

It was really a great trip, perfect weather, lots of fish, good group of guys.

CF,

Yes, "Long Point Camp" is what its called, operated by the National Park Service. They were like $123/night, but split 6 ways it was very reasonable. They are cheaper in the "off" season, June1 through August 31...only 6 of the 20 some units have A/C.

Hedge,

Hope they don't shut down the Gubment, they will close the island if they do.

You can get all the bait (mullet) you want on the sound side of the south end, 4 or 5 throws and two 5 gal buckets were full. We did real well just out in front of ramp 11B.

Nice report RB. Love the scenery. Never been there but been to Hatteras a plenty. Those barrier islands are where its at. Island living.
