my father had a 1960 Mercedes 190 db, it was rated at 54 mpg in
1960! Every time something comes along that will actually work, the government will come up with a regulation to make it not feasible. Diesel is the best bet we have, but US regulations specifically target diesel emissions. Funny that European emissions that are stricter don't have any issue with diesel engines. Hydrogen fuel cells will work, but thanks to the current administration, CO2 has now been considered harmful.
