Based on last run, seems that the big front curtains cuts speed by approx. 3 mph.
Someone had asked, don't remember who. Doesn't matter - cruising speed and fuel consumption likely close to the same. |

Ya--that sounds about right--I am around 49 with the top and front windsheild up and over 50 with them down.
The radar arch hurts some as well--the more up in the air the more it hurts----sure glad I got plenty of HP!!

I've never noticed a difference at all but I don't run around WOT very often. Short bursts to keep the Yammy is shape. Can't afford to run too hard! Plus speed ain't really my game. I'm more into comfort (and strippers).

You may have the fastest outboard driven V21 on the water..... Reason being I believe the HO produces around 218 prop hp, and 200 is the max rated. On my boat, with the bimini off, prop'd just right, 1/4 tank, it might run 55 mph. I'd like that..... |

Remember mine is a V-20--My 88 is rated at 235hp-and about the only time I see those speeds is on the lake or the last 1/2 mile coming in off the ocean before the marina--And the wind makes a difference for sure on the speeds--but I would not give up the top for anything--it just completes the boat in my Opinion.

I can tell you if a strap breaks towing at 55mph its catastrophic and not much fun in rush hour trafic.

No problem at all towing with the curtains up - no stress on the gear .

I have O straps on my top--all stainless bows and quick releases to put top up.
As for towing with the top up---I do not do it if I am getting on a highway--you do not see it now--but you will see excessive wear on your top if you leave up the side curtians and top etc going down the freeway. With 35 years of towing a boat--top up will cost you tons in the long run as you shorten the life of your top. The 15 minutes it takes me to take the top down is cheap compared to buying a new top.
