Default Scallops in Homasassa

From the river, south seemed to be the place to snorkel up a big mess of scallops. Plentiful gathering, water temps between 87 and 89 degrees, good friends and perfect weather. Couple gallons cleaned and vacuum packed. Coming back down to earth on the eve of going back to work.

Default Again

And again and again. Sixth and final trip for 2012. I didn't have anyone else that wanted to go, so I went solo. Put in at Homasassa and then proceeded south from the channel to the flat out from Chazowitska. That has been a hot spot for us anyway.
Sunday this area proved to be some fantastic scalloping grounds. Never seen it as good, everything was perfect from weather, water clarity, tide and the scallops were so easy.
What a problem to have, trying to figure out how to collect 6 to 7 on a breath. You have to bag them up as you go because you can't hold that many in your hands at one time..
Have a new personal best of 7 on a breath and that wasn't even trying hard. I had heard of it being this good for ages, now I have seen it for myself. Another problem, I love to snorkel.. when it is this good you can get twice your limit in about 15 minutes.. Then your done gathering anyways.. Still plenty to see, I watched a full grown lizard-fish attack and swim-away with a pinfish, largest pilotfish I ever saw keeping an eye on me, and at least a dozen species of fish.
The flats are alive, time to grab a fishin pole..

Near flat calm too Ferman, cruised at 45kts from the markers to the tripod. I hadn't put any fuel in her since we last went out. Fuel burn is amazing with the little prop. Still don't have a center mount cleat on the bow, it wasn't necessary. I coulda anchored up with a 5LB window weight.
