Default Battery Relo...

Although I don't consider the 2.4 litre Merc to be a heavy outboard, once you add two guys working lines off the stern, 25 gal bait tank center of cockpit and two batteries in the bilge the '84 does get water in through the deck drains...I'm trying not to have to add check valves to those drains, so 1st attempt at fix was to relocate the batteries...ALL 3 of 'em...

And in an attempt to conserve the cash on this boat, used the sliding 2nd hatch lid to cover the new opening...

I wasn't using that cover anyway and I did test it's walk-on-ability before cutting the floor...
And all 3 batts are in boxes screwed down to the newly mounted 3/4" treated hatch floor....same 3/4 lip around inside edge for lid support, battery straps and foam insulation board snugly fit into batt boxes to keep things in place...
What I did break down and buy...

My portable charger was on the fritz and w/3 batts didn't want to use portable anyway...plug it in and forget it...keeps 'em HOT-TO-GO!!...REEL Deal comin along!!...

Thumbs up

Let us know how she sits in the transom with the weight shift. I cut a hatch in the same place in my V and was surprised wellcraft didn't utilize this space. I'm wanting to get her back and mount the hardtop an see how she rides before I buy trim tabs. It should make a difference, those batteries are heavy.

Bradford here's a shot of her at rest after the battery relo...

So it did have an effect on how she sits...I would not ditch the idea of trim tabs because of this...trim tabs, IMO are the best single thing you can do for one of these boats there is...they step the over all ride & performance level UP strongly in a V20 and I would imagine most any power boat...

Kracker, the cables came from NAPA store...total 22' of #2 cable (not 2/0) came to right at $80...if you find it cheap, just make sure it's the good stuff...this is a pretty important connection!!...

Thanks Destroyer...I've become a HUGE fan of onboard battery chargers...started out thinking the convenience would be great...and it is...plug in and forget is literal...stays that way 24/7 unless boat is in use...but the other thing about 'em is they EXTEND the battery's service life...batteries like to be HOT and these keep em that way, thus they last more years than if they're allowed to sit for extended periods at low charge and then brought up to full...this way they are consistently FULL...I think they pay for themselves easily...
