I am posting on my website 16 boxes of Korean War slides I purchased at auction that were shot in Korea in 1953. The soldier was in the 801st Medical Air Evacuation Squadron based at K-16 Seoul Korea. A lot of the slides had minimal info on them but a lot of the aircraft was not ID. Some I know like the F-86 Sabres C119 Flying Boxcars can some of the aircraft fans here help with some of the ID's of them. The slides are posted here on my site http://www.enfieldwargraves.smugmug.com/
scroll down the homepage to the galleries and let me know what boxes and number picture you can ID, thanks in advanced.............

Next time I go to my dads, I will try to remember to have him look and see if he remembers anything about them. He served during The Korean War.

enthusiast is an understatement, he's a full fledged prop nut. too bad he doesn't have a computer. Ill take a stab at it.
First of all, the twin engine transports with the rounded vertical stabilizer and the streamlined nose are Curtis C-46 commandos. The twin engine transports with the upright windshield are c-47's(DC-3s). The single engine plane in Box 1 pic 3 is a TBM Avenger. The single engine jet with the bubble canopy is a F-84 thunderjet. The twin engine black painted bombers are Douglas A-26 Invaders(one bad *** airplane). The dark blue navy jet is either a Grumman Panther or Cougar(box 7, pic one with the F86, box 14 pic 1), I can't tell the two apart. The big transport with the open front end(box 7 pic 3) is a C-124 Globemaster(they have one on static display at the Charleston airbase). Box 10 pic one is really cool. There's a C-69 constellation(have one on display here also), a B-17 bomber in hte back ground, with c-46's and C-47's Hope this helps, btw, here's a good site to check on them http://www.militaryfactory.com/aircr...r-aircraft.asp i used it to double check my findings and get the correct military designation numbers( no I didn't cheat) Last edited by spareparts; 09-25-2011 at 07:21 PM. |
