| clear coat question

okay,i got the motor hood painted now i can't find much info on what brand of clear coat to use.a friend told me that rust-oleum engine clear enamel was what he use because it is resistant to heat.not sure so i figured i would come to the site and ask.i talked to a body and paint guy i know and the price was kind of high for my wallet so i figured there was probably a spraycan product that would work.since the new decal set cost me about $80 i didn't want to end up having a product that would peel and cause me to have to start from scratch again. thanks ahead of time!!!

Didn't want to leave you hanging on this one. I do not know about the Rust oleum clear. I tried Mercury spray bombs, they are enamels and they have clear. I think they were $8.00 /can. Cowl took 2 cans of black to cover, 2 cans of clear for a second coat, looked great until the dumb arse painter left the cowl outside to dry and the dew penetrated the paint on top turning it cloudy. I graduated to HVLP spray gun and car paint, and I am a newbie. I have sanded this cowl 9 times now. One more time and I should have it. |

well,i talked to a buddy who does body work.he gave me some advice and it's coming along.i sanded down the cover, then applied fiberglass filler in the scratches then sanded them down.today i sprayed sandable primer on it and tomorrow i am going to wet sand it then put another coat of primer on it.after that i'll paint it w/ the evinrude matched paint, let it dry then apply the clear coat then the decals.it should look pretty good when i get it done.i'll post some pics.
