From what I remember there was a duplicate set of HID numbers on the interior port side about 3/4 the way forward within an inch or so of where the top and hull are pieced together. Don't know what year they started doing this.
The boat keeps me wanting to say it originally was a few feet longer than it is now. For some reason it looks like it might have originally been setup for outboards but later the entire transom was cut off and adapted for I/O. Been looking at several sites to try to make out the gunwale design and the Carolina flare with no success. I'm still lost.

brizio, don't be tempted to try to register the boat as anything other than what it is, hopefully with the correct HID numbers.
Over here there is a whole lot of hoops you must jump through in order to get current numbers for a salvaged/rebuilt/homemade boat. The last aggravation is a Coast Guard anal probe of the boat. They will even need to run a machine across the glass work in various locations in order to verify it's seaworthiness, not to mention all the other stuff to comply. Most homemade boats fail the inspection and it attracts a lot of scrutiny with boats over 16'. Still, very nice boat!

Fabrizio, no problem with your English. It is excellent. I admire you Europeans for your abilities to speak 2 or more languages.
It would be great to solve the mystery, but maybe it does not matter much. I know you would like to be legal and have the 12 mile certification, but what do you think the chances are of getting stopped between the 6 and 12 mile limits and asked for your certification? If you do get stopped and do not have the certification, how severe would the penalty be? |

...chanches to get stopped between 6 and 12 miles unfortunately are too high.....the coast guard in this period is increasing checks.....and the penalty is ....first a fine....but there'also, as an option (!), the confiscation of the boat....
You know...it wouldn't be so nice...... But having a "fishing machine" without leaving the 6 miles' limit is just like having a car and then walk..... However, I want to explain better my problem. I do not have to "register" the boat, in Italy is not required if the boats doesn't exceed 26 '; I have to identify the model year, because boats that were build BEFORE 1996, without CE ( european certification ), can obtain this kind of extension ( 6 to 12 ) .....but without documents, hin, or similar you cannot demonstrate that the boat was made before this year.... And obviously who issues the certificate to extend navigation 's limits requested me the HIN to identify 4 the model year..... that's all.... |

I hate to even bring it up as it sounds like water under the bridge...was there no "Bill of Sale" when you bought it?...did the insurer not request HIN?...I despise paperwork, but situations like yours, point out the importance...
I mean did you simply hand him the money and he handed you the boat?...and I'm not tryin to sound judgmental here...please don't misread...I'm just tryin to uncover some means of solving your delima... Are there any numbers on the outdrive?...

I simply hand him the maney, you're right, and I have also paperworks, but the justice in Italy is very bad, I called a lawyer taht told me not to proceed against the vendor, due to the low possibilities to obtain something.... Don't worry, I know that your words weren't judgmental....:) |

The Scarab had a lower transom at the rear. IMO But is it has been shortened that might be it. I don't think Wellcraft had molds stricktly for European production. Can you tell if the hull has coring on the inside? If the hull is cored that might be a little easier to identify. Avance? Sessa? What is the beam?

It is odd to me, you see it has the Scarab hull lines from the profile but is has the Formula 233 transom and bow contours.

that's it ! I ve identyfied some models that seems very similar.....
One of the best manufacturere is Bluefin, boat deck also is similar.... http://it.boats.com/listing/gallery....13314481&pic=1 let's have a look...however later I'll post other photos of my boat What I'm doing now is taking a look at ALL the boat listed in boats.com....terrifying..believe me !!!! :) However this afternoon I've searched and searched...inside, outside the boat....no hid at all..... The only thing that is curious is that my boat has a reverse bow, as you can see in Donzi for example....I'm going to believe that could be a hull that was first opened, disassembled and then customized......I don't konw... @ RidgeRunner ....what does it means "the hull has coring"... I cannot translate it ....sorry :) |
