Default 3.0 mercruser in a v20 ?

just found a 79 v20 i/o no engine needs work but well worth it. does anyone know if a 3.0 mercruser will be adequite, not looking to make a speed boat ,just want a simple engine that will push the thing around 30 mph.

I don't see any reason why with the right prop it wouldn't work. The 3.0L comes in 135HP versions now, and we have already established that a 140 JOHNZUKI will push a V-20 very well with EXCELLENT economy. You won't be a speed demon, but it should work. And you can't beat the cost of a new 3.0L I/O package.

Default 3.7 merc complete

got 3.7 488 merc with great performance in v 20 speed 40 to 43. 3.5 mpg@25mph 170 compression. engine ready to set in boat , transom hardware bellows all new. 2001 sterndrive available also. $2500 total package plus shipping. [email protected]
