How many hours is too many hours?
Found a really nice V20, price is reflected in its overall condition. Strapped to the back is a mid 90's 200hp yamaha that has almost 1,000 hours on it. Thoughts? Not in the position to replace the motor for a few years. Granted there are no guarantee's in life but wanted an overall opinion.

1000 hours seems about right for that year motor. Heck most times a boat/engine that has been used regularly is way more relieable than one with low hours! Yes thats a lot but if its been well maintained its no biggie. Check shift shaft and steering arm for rust/corrosion and do a compression test. I just sold a 23 Mako with twin 130 Yammies-early 90s. They had about 1500 hours on them. They ran fine, but were showing their age....had a bunch of little things go bad. Good luck!

What year is the motor?? 1994 started the saltwater series. They have the Stainless shift rod and should be fine.
Do the compresion test and take for a sea trial, be sure uts pumping water and open the bottom screw on the lower unit to be sure its filled with oil and not water or milky oil. Last if they are still using the oil injection disconnect it!! I was using one on a late 80's motor when it failed and blew a perfect motor  The beginning of each year I use to use a gas tank of 50:1with the oil injection still working, this way I could tell if the injection was working right with out blowing the motor and the extra oil would not hurt yje old motor Good Luck

Well, it is a saltwater series but it doesn't matter. Its the boat thats listed in the gallery, Size Five. Spoke to Tom, he has a guy coming today and one tomorrow. Due to overwhelming interest he has taken her off of craigslist and will be raising the price from the original asking price (people selling boats never cease to amaze me). The hunt continues...

One thing that someone pointed out to me about the Yamaha oil injection is that it puts the oil into the intake independent of the fuel so that even if you clog a jet the motor still gets lubed. Running premix, if a jet clogs then the cylinder will go lean on fuel and also lack lubrication. Hope you're bouncing back from your recent trip to the hospital.
