Default updates, more Q's

So it's starting to look like a V20. Those stupid boxes are gone and the windshield (that the previous owner thought went to another boat 'cuz he had the pieces assembled up-side-down) is back on. Now to the questions. Note the crack along the chine. I have some light but VERY tight weave cloth. How many layers (from the inside) should I build up and how far should I extend in the two planes? I'm thinking 1 foot out all around with 5 or so layers layed in two inch increments (2 inches wider, 6 inches longer. 2 inches wider, etc. Also, keep the inboard fuel tank, and what to patch with (has a few pinholes-just on the top)? Hopefully this serves in some capacity as boat-porn for you die-hards, and as always, THANKS GUYS!!!!

just looked at pics and some explanation seems necessary. Crack is along chine from bulkhead in starboard console, to about 4 feet back. Also, I assume wired item in fuel tank is gauge? are they standard relative to the gauges or are they specific (I have a gauge from another boat)? Is it some sort of transfer pump? In viewing please note custom helm chair and requisite beverage on port console.

that crack looks pretty big....its tough to see where exactly it is on the boat...is it the chine or one of the strakes?...Need to grind it back considerably to see how deep it really is before even attempting the repair....its structural, not cosmetic.

The tank??? I'm not big on reparing tanks.....much safer to replace...that being said, there have been guys who repaired them with sanding, etch prepping and epoxying with cloth....I'm not recommending it....its risky...if the tank is clean and empty, see if you can find an aluminim welder to possibly patch the pinholes...that would be better

You've got some work ahead of you on this one...go slow and be very thorough...

Did we ever establish what year that boat is and what that whole "hurricane" thing was all about? I cant say I recall a V-20 with a below deck tank that is square like that, although I have not seen many dual console either. That drop down in the floor is weird for a dual console too. Almost looks like an older cuddy with the top cut off.

What does the stern of the boat look like from inside? was it an i/o converted to a bracket or a sea drive you think?

Anyway, the wires on your gas tank appear to definitely be the fuel sender (gauge).

RW, I would LOVE to know what year it is (can anyone say?)! Title does say Hurricane but at this point I have no doubt it's a Wellcraft. I don't know about the dual console either, I'm a virgin. It's definitely factory in the layout, and was in fact an I/O conversion, beyond that I can't say. As for the tank, I'd just as soon scrap it for the aluminum as anything else, I just wondered if there was a big advantage to keeping it. As to the crack, it is in fact a strake, I mislabeled it. It is definitely through the hull and goes from just ahead of the wheel and is just under four feet in length. I know it's structural and am prepared to tackle that I just want some guidance as to how much I have to build it up/ how far out I have to extend the repair? I'm not sure if you can tell from the pic or not but some dipsh*t put one strip of 2 inch tape on the outside and screwed a PT 1x1 on the inside of the strake! That'll fix it!!!!!! I may be short on experience but I'm not a moron, what was this guy thinking?!!!!

Jed, I would post the structural repair question on a web site called Boat Builder Central out of Florida......they have experts on hand including a boat designer that can show you how to properly fix that large crack step by step with full confidence if you follow what they tell you....and they also sell any materials you would need at great prices....post the damage and see what they say...they also have a ton of other boat builders and repair pics on the site to see how they did their rebuilds....its good information......keep the repair updates coming so we can all check it out.

Since I first came on this site, that's the first HURRICANE I recall seeing...looks like a great layout...well worth fixing up as very unique!!...wish I could help you more w/the technical end on the glass repair...

Looks to be '77 or '78 model...

I can't seem to find one. I looked all around the transom where they seem to usually be. Also checked the console area and can't come up with anything. ???????

sometimes the hull ones are very hard to see\find. Try waxing the rear transom and see of anything shows up. On a previous boat I swore that it didn't have the numbers until I took out a buffer and was waxing it.
