Default 2 starflite 1966 100hp outboards ???

I have a 1977 wellcraft sunhatch .I have 3 late 1960's evinrude starflite electric shift outboards. Now when I get 2 of them running perfect would I be able to mount them on my boat?-The tag on the boat says its rated for up to 215 hp for the outboard.I have rebuilt my transom reglassed it .I have been told buy a fellow boater that the old outboards are simply to heavy.would the 1 outboard be enough??-Yes I am the guy that posted about putting a 60hp Gale on the boat and now I have been picking up outboards to add power to the boat. Thanks Again for any advise!

My first question would be... why?

But, aside from that, my first comment would be to measure the space you have and then the amount of space that two motors would take up. IF you have enough room then I would weigh the engine or try to look up what each engine weighed and add them together for the total.

Compare that to a single 200HP motors weight.

If I recall correctly those were V4 motors... pretty big, and they were heavy also. Electric shift using two solonoids in the lower unit to shift from forward to reverse.

That's a pretty good looking boat, Alex. I agree with Destroyer to do the measuring and the weighing. I think you are going to find they will not work both in terms of space and weight. Those old Starflights had some width and weight to them.

I think since you have three of them, you should put the best of the three on and give it a go. I do think a 100 h.p. motor (even an older one, which correct me if I am wrong guys, is probably only equivalent to a modern 85-90 h.p. motor) would get you cruising with your hull. I do not think you would break any speed records, or probably be even able to pull up a larger slalom skier with it, but I think you could plane and cruise with it, and, of course, get out to fish. If you did not like the performance, then you could just put some bucks into a newer, larger motor. Now controls, steering and all that stuff is a different question. If you do not already have controls, you are probably going to have trouble finding a set.

LOL, I think I may actually have a set of controls for them sitting in my dungeon (basement/mancave/hermitage/junkpile/workshop/garage). It's been a while, but I can check if necessary.

Oh, and I agree, the 100 would probably be just enough to break free and get up on plane... my inline 6 (85hp) on my old 73 used to do it once in a blue moon, so 100 should be ok... like you said Nipper, he won't break any speed records, but he'll get to the ol' fishing hole.

You guys are correct.I will go with the plan of mounting just 1 of the engines. My thinking is that if the boat tag says 215 hp max then I need to get as close to that number as possible.I have controls and such for these engines. One thing I cant figure out is why the tag states 750 lbs max for persons and gear.I have a 14foot thundercraft that the tag says 1100 lbs?-How on earth the gilligans island boat could carry more weight than the wellcraft has gotten me more confused.I am a rookie when it comes to boating.

I do not think you need to get as close as possible to the Max H.P. I was just thinking the 100 would be a cheap way to get you out on the water, and would definitely be a better option than the old 60 h.p. Gale you were thinking about. I think you are right that a 150-200 h.p. outboard would be WAY better than the old starflite 100, but if you're just looking to get on the water, on a plane, and at the lowest possible price, the starflite and controls you already have fit that bill. Good luck with it, let us know what you end up doing, and post some pics if you can.

Phew...... thank God!!!!!.. He has controls.... Now I won't have to go digging in the dungeon. I never know what I'm going to find when I start looking through the milk crates. Too often it's a small left handed doohicky that I probably should install in the flux capacitor or an unfinished thermonuclear bomb or some such triffle.

(I hate it when I find those)...

Has anyone watched Warehouse 13 on the Science Fiction Channel? I think they used my dungeon as the basis for the show. <sigh>

I think as long as you get the right prop, you will be good to go........now, can you find props for those old motors?
