The peeling paint is really not a major problem as it can be easily touched up. In my particular case I am keeping the boat on a lift, and the self drains are plugged when in the water.
Do you think roughing up the surface of the rod box with sand paper will help in paint adhesion? Great job by the way, I especially love the recessed drink holders. Where did you get them?
