Default Rod Boxes...Not REELY...

Been wonderin what to do w/that precious space normally occupied w/Rod Boxes...just didn't need anymore rod storage...what I did need was a place for PFDs...visible and easy to get to...wish I'd already done this the other day when DNR stopped me for a safety inspection...woulda been easier than diggin 'em outta the front hatch in the cuddy...

Blank boxes to start with...

Then I found this stuff layin around...the original rub-rail off the 21...been meanin to toss it, but held on for some reason...the old lattice was pretty nasty...

Took the skill-saw down the rub-rail, leaving a "J" mold to kill out the edges...

Kate stopped by for inspection...

Although these pics don't show it, the stuff cleaned up pretty good w/a ton of Clorox-based stuff...the molding cornered OK...

So put it all together and BOOM!!... instant PFD storage...

Stores three per side...w/a couple more under the cuddy for good measure, everybody rides...

thats frickin funny......man that looks awesome...i was a little nervous at first scrolling down but the finished product looks cool...I've been thinking this year of ditching the rod boxes and going for storage....actually getting 7' rods in and out of them is a pain in the ***. was thinking of converting to something with a net.....cant use lattice now thats been done!

Great job!

While we're on the topic, does anyone know where to get new rod box inserts? Mine are pretty shabby, and if I could get new ones...
