(I refuse to talk about the time about 20 years ago that I put my first v20 in the water and I forgot to put the plug in. We were just sitting at the dock loading her with coolers etc when my father in law noticed that the deck was starting to get wet near the stern. Quickly towed her over to the shore and beached her to keep her from sinking. But like I said, it never happened...LOL) ![]() Which leads me to a different question.. Be honest everyone... Who has forgotten to put the plug in, what happened and how did you correct the mistake?

I think the surveyor needs glasses or those Gill brackets came a long way.

Not yet! But it always worries me being old and forgetful. But I think I have a good "system". I keep the wrench and plug in one of the buckets that mount in the transom. I always take these out when I am done and will put the plug in before putting them back in the boat when getting ready. and back to thread topic, Ya, CB did win the "post it first". Pretty much the same comments too.

I agree that the surveyor needs glasses as the rest of the boat is needing some big time care, and were he ever came up with the price is beyond me!! But in its day this boat has caught a ton of fish!!

I forgot to put the plug in once in my original '73 V20. Man 3 of us must have been on the water for better than 20 minutes (or longer) before we noticed she was sitting a tad low. Opened the in-deck fish boxes and water was all the way to the top! The entire hull was full of water. I just reached over the tranny and screwed the plug in. It took longer to pump the water out....I can tell you that!
Just a little longer and I think we would have capsized. What's screwy is the '73 had two plugs in the rear. One in the usual place and another underneath. I only forgot one of em.

A while ago with my very first boat, and open 14' aluminum grumman I forgot the plug on my 2nd time out ever while at Leornardo ramp....of course all of the well wishers there up above you on the dock just waiting for it to happen were quick to let me know......so no harm done other than feeling like a complete douche bag......best thing that could have happened to me though as I can GUARANTEE you I will never do it again....I know strong words, but I am vigilant to not ever have that feeling again.

I know what you mean RW. I will never forget again. I like to think I've saved my buddy's arse a few times as well. When the boat is backing down the ramp (or before) I always ask, "is the plug in?"
