Not normally, the mechanical pump is normally all it needs. I don't own one but I do know general info on automobile engines. I recall your post from a while back. Frustrating ain't it.. What have you tried so far?
Have you tried to hook up that inline auxillary pump? |

I can't remeber exactly what you did, but did it run correct with the electric pump hooked up? Start with the basics( even if you allready did it a while back), check compresion, check dwell(if you are running points, you really need to convert to pertronix), check timing, and check fuel pressure. If everything checks out, remove the fuel filter from the carb(remove the fuel line and break the big nut loose, screw it out and the filter is behind the big nut), if theer is a lot of trash in teh filter, do your self a favor and go ahead and rebuild the carb, they are not that hard to do

Thanks Spare parts,I have installed a brand New carb, sent over from florida.Unfortunately I cannot get a replacement electric fuel pump here with 1/4 bore barbs on it.The original one I have is bust! With regards to tuning the engine is perfect, timing etc.Starts on the button,
What is your thinking on the fact that she revs up with no problems but once the load comes on its a disaster? Regards Brian Ps I presume pertronix is elecrtronic ignition system, where can I get one? |

from what you've told me, it sounds like the carb, personaly I don't trust rebuilt carbs from shops that can't introduce me to guy rebuilding them( I do my own). One more thing to check, see if the distributor is advancing, put the timing light on it and rev it up, it shoudl advance at least 10-15 degrees or so. Pull the cap off and turn the rotor, it should turn one direction and spring back, if not, its aperfect time to pull the point plate to inspect teh advance springs(and replace it with a pertronix). try ebasicpower.com for the coversion kit, shoot me an email if you have any questions about it... One other thing, pull the fuel filter and make sure someone didn't put it in backwards, the open end should face teh nut.

I am inclined to say that it's possible that the throttle linkeage is out of adjustment..You may have the hammer down but the cable isn't opening up the carb because of too much slack. You are using a different cable drive when she's outta' gear which could be why it will rev outta' gear.
Another thought... If you are getting the rpms but she just won't come up, maybe you've spun the hub on the prop? |

Another thought...25 miles of monofilament line wrapped up in the hub?

Just when did you start having this problem?
Did something change? Did you change something on the motor? All of these are cluses that may indicate adirection of analysis. As spareparts said, those symptoms tend to indicate a problem with the carbs... |
