I bought my project V 20 as a cheap family boat to fix up. I didnt realize that for a reason I am not aware of yet that the V 20 is such a collectors type boat. What or why is this boat and boat style so appealing to so many people? Several people who are some heavy boaters have come up to me and knew what the boat was and were jealous that I found one. All that I have gathered so far is that the boat design was great for salt or fresh water because of its stability in heavy surf and chop.

I believe the V-20 has such a broad appeal because of it's basic versatility...you can take one of these boats and alter it to be any kind of craft you want to suit your personal needs...the right size to be easily trailerable, plus CLASSIC boat lines and rough water handling...the flair on the V-20's bow is another attribute...I've busted some waves that had others with lesser boats hittin' the deck...LOL...
The availability and price range also make it a popular choice...over the years of production, it was configured so many ways...I/O, OB, Sea Drive, Cuddy, Center Console, Dual Console w/a bottom hull design that is as smooth as any 20'er out there(although as I've recently discovered, as w/any other boat, is greatly enhanced w/trim tabs). All the above added up to a good value in a broad segment of the boat market...and those who appreciate what a good boat at a fair price can do for them have responded over the years... I also believe this this V-20 forum Tim (Bigshrimpin) started so many years ago adds to the appeal...it's a great community of folks willing to help in any way they can and has even lead to some valuable friendships along the way...just like the V-20 itself, it's a comfortable place to be...

It's a great boat with a great history (early C Raymond Hunt design, 1st boat on shore Bay of pigs invasion, etc.). For the $$$ you can't really beat it . . . Great open deck layout, Pretty decent ride, very seaworthy. These boats aren't exactly rare . . . they had one of the longest production runs of any hull (35+ years 1963(alim) - ???, Wellcraft 1970 - 1997).
How's that trailer? Did you get'r home yet? |

I had no idea what I was going to buy when I started looking at Boats, I know I wanted a Boat for cruising, fishing, salt water, fresh water, well reviewed and recommend by owners and something I can work on and enjoy without breaking the bank.
I started looking surfing and stumble upon this site. Found the blogs on the restoration and worked done all of which was amazing to say the lease, and above all the design together with its FLAIR and contours of the V to this day I still have a beer in my hand and cigar on moonlight night and stare at my V in the driveway, I must say a strange phenomenon happened I brought the V home and my wife of twenty one years left three months later. Jealousy I guess ? Also meeting the Guys on here is priceless :) Good luck..Make it a V its for Victory |

One of reasons is this one on the photo, look at the lines on the bow, this hull is simply beautiful. I get compliments at the boat gatherings because of the "working" type boat style and the looks of the hull. This V20 is simply a small boat which inspires confidence even offshore. One thing I wish it had is more transom space for a dual small motor install, which will make it a safer boat when going out there to The Deep Blue.
On the photo my girlfriend, my niece and my son Jorge at Palominito Island. CONGRATS AND WELCOME COMRADE !!!
