Default Hey Tsubaki!!

Is it too early to start talking about Wassaw? I have already taken the days off and started shooting the bow. I've been chomping at the bit all year.

Seen you looking at the thread this afternoon!
I've made room on my schedule since May for both the primitive weapons and the gun hunt .
The gun hunt is a walk-on also this year, due to past poor turnout.
Just ask away, I'll try to keep up.

Last year I printed out the doc. off the website. Do I just bring it with me and some ID or what is the procedure?

I'll be using a bow only, although I have only been bow hunting for 3 years. I have hunted with the gun since I was 8 but the bow has not seen any blood yet. I'd love to get my first bow-kill on Wassaw!

I think i'll be flying solo but not sure. Do your bikes become a necessity?

(Thinking outloud....)Climber, tent, sleeping bag, bow, snakeboots, water, more water, toilet paper,,,,,,,,,,,

What is the rule on fire wood? Down/dead trees only?

What is the rule for who gets what stands and when you have to be in them......should I just shut up and wait till the meeting on the first day?

Can you tell I'm excited

Willy,

These little coastal deer can be real spooky making it fun to hunt.

They will issue a permit when you check in.
Present ID (drivers license) and hunting license (to include big game and be sure you have the deer harvest record) during check in.
The bike depends on you. You are just as tired when you get to the destination if you had walked, you just got there faster.
In all honesty you would probably get more out the experience if you brought a cart or the like to tote your stuff and walk.
Firewood, dead down wood only.
Had a group from Florida came a few times. On their first trip, they brought a chainsaw. While the resident manager was at our camp shooting the breeze, they cranked up the chainsaw.
Being told they could only cut dead wood, the one with the chainsaw walks over to a dead pine tree (that is as big as they can get) and fells it

across 3 of their 4 tents.
I turn to the manager, discretely point in their direction and say "lumberjacks", that is forever their names.

You are allowed to show up the day before the hunt and pitch camp. At (historically) noon the day before the hunt you are allowed to scout and place stands (look at the map, a portion of the island is private property, you may pass directly through but not hunt).

willy, did you read the last pm I sent you entitled "Put this in your pipe"?

blue, Blackbeard Island (October 22-24 and December 3-5) is another good one, archery only. My cousin has been trying to get me to go for years but I've already got 4 weeks off planned for hunting trips from November to January.
