 It's stated in MANY of the warranties that it it must be checked by an authorized dealer before the first start-up. ED'S MARINE got into BIG trouble over this a few years back, and ALOT of engines he sold got voided warranties because of this. I know quite a few dealers will work with you on the install and charge you a $1K or so do just hang the engine and hook up the connections and do the first start for you and keep all the warranty terms intact. If you buy an engine though and do the whole install yourself and don't take it to a licensed dealer to verify the install before the first start they CAN and WILL void your warranty.
